By AFRICA KA MAHAMBA

THE WINTERVELDT BASED youth club the Golden Youth Club will be embarking on a campaign called ClimateCycleTour to make awareness about climate change.

From 10 February until 20 February ten young people will be touring all Tshwane Township with ten bicycles as part of the awareness.

They will start in Winterveldt on the 10 February finish their tour at Ga-Rankuwa on the 20 February. For more about the tours see schedule on the bottom of this story.

Nomatlou Mahlangu of the Golden Youth Club said they are working in partnership with Peer-Leader International consists of South Africa Germany, Ukraine, Malawi and Bosnia to give awareness about Climate Change using the novel Ark of Noah.

“Ten young people will embark on the tour routes with bicycles for 10 days sharing the information around Tshwane. It is high time to act against Climate Change. The rising of the global temperature is a threat to humankind. But besides a better policy, better laws and more energy of the governments it is obvious that the people have to involve.

“Governments have a lot of national and international conferences; the last one was in December COP25 in Chile. But it seems it needs more pressure to change climate policy and make bigger steps to protect.

“With our project ClimateCycleTour, we want to educate and form a bigger lobby against climate change. We want residents of Tshwane to know about climate change and to help save our planet,” said Mahlangu.

She concluded by saying they want to motivate young people as influencers to create ideas and to realize practical steps but also to include decision-makers, politicians, business people to contribute to stopping climate change.

“This will be done locally, on a national level but also on COP25 where we will present results of young people,” concluded Mahlangu.
