THE GAUTENG POLICE have launched a manhunt for six awaiting trial prisoners who escape from custody at Springs Magistrate Court yesterday. Nine suspects escape from custody and the other three suspects were arrested earlier today.
Four of the wanted seven suspects are Murder and Possession of firearm from Kwa-Thema, they are suspects Phumlani Tshabalala, Mzandile Master Mbatha, Mduduzi Richard Sithole and Mongiseni Cyprian Langa. The other two are William Reddinghuiz who was arrested for Possession of Drugs in Springs and Augustine Mahlalela who was also arrested for Trespassing in Springs.
Those who were rearrested after they have escaped are Sibande Sibekezele Xulu of Springs who was facing Housebreaking and Theft, Clayton Donovan Booysen of Springs who was facing Possession of Drugs and illegal immigrant Anock Nyirenda.
Brigadier Mathapelo Peters of the Gauteng police said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the escape from custody of nine (09) awaiting trial prisoners.
“We have since launched a manhunt for the men who escaped from Springs Magistrates Court on Wednesday afternoon, 04 December 2019. Four of the escapees had made an appearance in Court for an alleged murder committed in Kwa-Thema in March 2019 and possession of a firearm, while the other suspects were appearing for housebreaking and theft, possession of drugs, trespassing and for being in the Country illegally.
“We are appealing for the public’s assistance in locating these escapees. Members of the public are warned not to confront the prisoners, particularly the murder suspects
(see attached picture) as they are considered to be dangerous and possibly armed, but to rather contact the nearest police station should they spot the wanted suspects,” said Peters.
